My Son’s Early Years Were Filled with Lots of ‘No’

  • We had No calm and but had lots of aggression that left scars, tears and trauma.

  • Most therapists and autism programs showed little to No benefit. They asked us to leave due to aggression or No progress.

  • Medications showed No improvement or they made it worse.

  • No one sat by us at church events. Friends rarely called- if at all. 

  • Family had little to No suggestions or resources of how to help.

  • There was a time we had No babysitters which meant No breaks.

How I Created a Life of Yes!

Reframe My Thinking

  • I turned normal daily thoughts like 'I am a Bad Mom' and 'I Hate My Life' into something that inspired more action and positivity.

  • Thinking I was a bad mom inspired sitting on the couch and eating cookies. Giving myself grace and acknowledging I did the best I can inspired getting up quicker and looking for ways to improve.

Invest in Me

  • Changing those thoughts helped me reframe how I viewed certain things- like how I took care of me.

  • While there are many demands to raising a child with autism, using strategic thinking I was able to come up with quick, creative ways to give myself the rejuvenation I needed- without the guilt.

Shape My Path

  • I then had more energy from my 'me' time so I could start looking forward again.

  • Without so much constant stress I noticed clues I was missing from my child that led to our current doctor and many positive gains.

  • I started my childhood dream of a photography business. And we have since attended many family and public events again- with my son.

Embrace Joy

  • I created a routine that helps me routinely appreciate joyful moments but also easy ways to create them and plan for them.

  • Autism is still autism. And some days it still catches up with me. I also built my Joy File to help on those rough days.
